Why it looks like a real lens

Simple background-blur tools blur the whole photo and paste the subject back on top, so the subject's colours smear outward into a bright or dark halo. This editor uses a weighted blur: pixels that belong to the subject carry no weight when the background is blurred, so the background appears to continue softly behind your subject — closer to what a wide-aperture lens does optically.

The subject is found by the same on-device segmentation model used for background removal. It runs in your browser; your photo isn't uploaded.

• Busy backgrounds — blur turns clutter into pleasant colour and light.

Keep the blur moderate for a believable result; extreme blur on a phone snapshot can look artificial. Use Edge softness to blend the outline.
